Violet Daily For Breast Pain And Tenderness

By Dr. Tori Hudson, N.D.

Breast Pain - also known as mastalgia is a common concern seen regularly in clinical practice and is a frequent reason for visits to both primary care and gynecology offices. Mastalgia can be defined as the discomfort, tenderness, or pain in one or both breasts.

I appreciate that the Violet formulation is standardized, well-tolerated, and easy to use in practice....

"For decades, iodine has been one of my go-to treatments for high-estrogen presentations in women, such as breast cysts and tenderness, premenstrual mood symptoms, and heavy menstrual bleeding.

For this purpose, molecular iodine (I₂) is preferable to potassium iodide, as it is less likely to disturb thyroid function.

Prior to Violet Daily becoming available, I relied on compounded Lugol’s formulations, which tend to be higher dose and can be more difficult for patients to use consistently. I appreciate that the Violet formulation is standardized, well-tolerated, and easy to use in practice. The inclusion of selenium is also a thoughtful feature, providing an additional level of support for thyroid health. That said, I still recommend appropriate thyroid assessment before and during use. 6What is the mechanism of action?
The active ingredients in Violet iodine combine in the stomach where it binds with other molecules to create iodinated lipids which trigger apoptosis in breast tissue – ultimately correcting the imbalance between new cell growth and programmed cell death.
7Should patients take Violet iodine for as long as they are menstruating or can they take it for a short period and stop?
Violet iodine is a supplement and should be taken every day. Skipping a day or two, or even a month will not cause any harm, but women will likely find that their symptoms will return with discontinued use.
8What are Violet iodine’s contraindications?
Women should not take Violet if they: • are pregnant or nursing • have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to iodine • have a history of thyroid disease • take prescription medications including lithium or thiouracils (such as methylthiouracil and propylthiouracil) • have had bariatric surgery, as it can affect the appropriate absorption of iodine, thereby reducing the efficacy of Violet iodine to help alleviate menstrual-related breast discomfort symptoms.
